Dear Kinkaid Family,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Visual and Performing Arts Season: Transformations.

Art has always been about transformation. From the beginning, humans transformed cave walls into stories. And since then, artists continue the process: visual artists transform marble into beautiful bodies; musicians transform single notes into epic compositions; actors transform themselves into endless characters. And, most importantly, the arts transform us—artists and spectators—into more empathetic humans who learn and grow through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

In 2019-2020 we invite you to join us in a season exploring all types of transformations. From the mythical and fantastical transformations in Mary Zimmerman’s adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr to the subtler transformations found in Lauren Gunderson’s The Taming, and the classic musical, On the Town, we present you an exciting array of theatrical experiences that we hope will transport you into the worlds and minds of some truly exceptional characters.

We are excited that our season officially kicks off with a visual arts exhibition, fittingly entitled Transformations, where students from each division will explore how they have transformed as young people.

All of our Visual and Performing Arts faculty members are committed to helping our students transform as both artists and citizens of the world. We are hopeful that through our productions, our concerts, our exhibitions, our screenings, our readings, and our publications, our audiences, gallerygoers, and readers will transform with us.
