Thank you for your interest in auditioning for one of the many Kinkaid Visual and Performing Arts opportunities we offer.

Upper School Students,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 academic year! I look forward to seeing many of you in our art studios, rehearsal halls, and performance spaces this year.

Although the show isn’t until the last weekend of February and rehearsals don’t begin until Interim Term (for the core cast), I wanted to make you all aware that auditions for the Upper School musical, ON THE TOWN, will take place on Saturday, September 7 with callbacks on Sunday, September 8.

But that’s not all! We are excited to announce that this year we are adding an additional performance opportunity for our 9th and 10th graders. This inaugural event will be a 30 minute musical theatre review featuring the music of Jerry Herman: the Tony winning composer/lyricist for MameHello, Dolly!La Cage aux FollesMack and Mabel; and more! In just 12 rehearsals, you will build your singing, dancing, and acting skills while creating a one of a kind performance tailored to your talents. Take advantage of this opportunity to grow and shine! The Showcase is on Saturday, December 7th. While we will cast everyone who indicates they want to be part of the show, you are asked to participate in the ON THE TOWN audition process.

We are hoping to see MANY of you at the audition.

In an attempt to focus more on student wellness, Kinkaid Arts and Athletics are continuing the collaboration we began last year:

  • Students cast in either the Core Cast or the Supporting Cast may opt to receive a Winter PE Credit for their participation in the musical. Although several students will choose to play a sport in the winter and do the musical, you may only receive one credit for the winter (in other words you can’t get a credit for doing both the musical and playing soccer).
  • Students involved in a spring sport or in a physical education course will be excused from all athletic obligations during production week of the musical. Rehearsals will start immediately after school and will end each evening by 8:00PM.

In an effort to make room for students of all commitment levels, there will be three types of casting available:

  • Core Cast. This is a major commitment. These leads will be unable to travel during Interim and should plan on being called for the majority of rehearsals starting in January.
  • Supporting Cast: This is a medium commitment. These roles will not start rehearsing until after Interim.
  • Ensemble Cast: This is a minimal commitment. These cast members will be required to attend only two or three Sunday rehearsals plus tech week.

We are looking to cast somewhere between 50-60 Upper School students in the show.

The show will be presented the last weekend of February. With mandatory technical rehearsals on President’s Day and then every day beginning on Saturday, February 22nd.

This year, to help you feel more comfortable with the dance portion of the audition, we are offering two optional Dance Workshops on Wednesday, September 4th and Thursday, September 5th. All audition information, including sign-ups and dance workshop information, can be found by clicking On The Town Auditions at the top of this page.
